About
One question about Europe at a time, answered with data.
Signal and Noise is a data-journalism publication about how Europe lives, works and spends: housing, the economy, work, tech and blockchain. Each story takes one question, answers it with official statistics and explains in plain English what the numbers can and can’t say.
How we work
- Official sources first. Most stories start from Eurostat. Where we use other data, such as ESMA’s MiCA register, we say so on the chart.
- Every chart is sourced. Each one names its dataset and links to it. The tables we used are in the Data Room.
- Breaks are flagged. When a statistic changes method, we mark it on the chart and explain what that means for the story.
- Corrections are public. If we get a number wrong, we fix it and add a dated note at the end of the story.
- Analytics only with your consent. We count visits without cookies; Google Analytics loads only if you accept it. We never sell or share email addresses. See the privacy notice.
